A year has past since my last mission trip and honestly I don’t even feel like the same person. A great amount of healing occurred since September 30, my last/previous post. For the most part I’ve kept the details between me, God and a couple women in my life. But I’m ready again to share through my writing. My hope and goal as I move forward in His gentle truth is to think differently, more positively about life, especially in relationships.
I have a confession. I have difficulty trusting God is present with me in Utah. Ironically, He first showed this to me on my first mission trip in March 2003. I was living in Arizona at the time. I had been accepted to graduate school at the University of Utah and had fears about returning to Utah. Through the difficulties of my twenties I pursued several mission trips, and when I’m honest with myself I realize I felt like I had to “go” to be near to God. I had to “go” to hear His voice. But, it’s right here all along. Ultimately this is the reason I did not go back to the Philippines this past winter. I felt God was telling me to trust Him here. To go on a mission with Him in my everyday life.
The door is open again. I’m now going to Capital Church and am planning to join their group to Swaziland, South Africa in February 2012. My perspective has taken a complete 180! More than anything my desire for this trip is for my participation to be an act of worship. I don’t say this as a hope... I say this with complete sincerity. I have been so filled in this year with truth that I am ready to say thank you and pour out without expectation in South Africa. I guess 8th times a charm!
But I can’t end here quite yet... I have an awesome praise about little Caleb from the Philippines!
It took a year!, but he finally received that walker I promised. And just as I suspected, he took right to it and is playing his own version of soccer on the huge soccer field. I am so proud of him! His doctor and caretakers are so excited and think he'll be walking independently sooner than later. When he does they're planning to throw a huge party complete with a roasted pig!
