Which...

Awhile ago I had this thought or "vision", whatever you want to call it. I saw myself in the Philippines for a longer period of time. Like a couple months. That's crazy because I've never done anything longer than two weeks.

The only real obstacle is my job. I don't have a husband or kids to consider while I make this decision. My savings is sufficient. Well, really that's it. Just my job. I talked to my boss today about it to get her input on my options. What is she willing to let me do without all these fancy HR accommodations I hope never to have the need to understand. Parents at work are asking to schedule in December which is a potential leave time. I feel guilty answering that question with complete avoidance of my personal considerations.

I'm not ready to make any drastic decisions that might result in... I don't even think about it. ...Not having my job. How stupid would that be to leave something I do everyday, my livelihood? I have a job that I love. I "contribute to society" everyday in the lives of children. And, I'm actually pretty decent at it.

But, then again, who thinks more than two seconds about leaving their life in the comfy U.S. to be in a hot, sweaty, buggy, culture shocking third world country? A crazy weirdo that can't wait to see what God has in store.

I just really hope and pray that my boss says I can go with her blessing and my position will be there waiting for me when I get back, no questions asked. I want my cake, and I want to eat it too.

  1. Holly, I have been meaning to email you or find you at church and ask how things have been since you came over for dinner. I'm glad you posted. I will say a prayer that things work out just as they should.
